So those who know me well, know very well that the kitchen is one of the last places I like to spend my time, there is just no joy there for me!
However, the simple fact is I am a mama with 3 hungry boys and a 'foodie' husband (thank goodness for him, weekend dining at home is usually quite spectacular), and so I am bound to spend a little time in the kitchen, it's my job, it's just the way it is...
It takes a lot to inspire this little lady when it comes to food, and these treasures are going to be my bibles this year. I purchased Apples for Jam a couple of years ago, purely because I was in love with the cover, and it really is the only book that has ever inspired me. Good wholesome family cooking. Lola Berry's book is cover to cover goodness & one pot, slow cooking is a winner not only for it's easy, hearty dishes but because cleaning up means washing one pot! I'm actually a little excited...
You have to garner kitchen inspiration anywhere you can find it !
ReplyDeleteWhat a great selection you have.
Can't go past a slow cooker, the rice puddings cooked in them are awesome :)
Have been coveting that Apple for Jam book for a while, might be my next indulgence I think.
I actually love cooking but the everynight dinner thing I hate....with a passion! So boring and so much pressure to cook for everyone and please them all. My plan this year is for more interesting meals and when I can get my hands on the Jamie Oliver 30 minute meals book I'm hoping that will help.
ReplyDeleteThe girls and I are doing some baking today, now thats my kind of cooking.
LOL - I think 2011 is the year of Food - A friend and I have just started up a healthy eating and cooking blog - It is fun tryingto come up with meals that the family will like but will also help me to drop some KG's - I suppose part of the problem is that I need to simply eat less - LOL Have fun with your books.
ReplyDeleteHugs - Fee X
good luck - btw, the Jamie Oliver 30 minute meals is great! Stuff you would actually cook with ingredients that you can actually buy.
ReplyDeletei heart apples for jam! if i were to have a dream cookbook that would be it.
ReplyDeletehope you get inspired. I am not big on cooking meals as the chef in our family makes 95% of them but you know I love to bake.
wish you were closer & I'd definitely try to get you to LOVE your kitchen.
goodluck Mel ♥
I have seen the Apples for Jam book in the library, I may have to check it out first before buying it.
ReplyDeleteI love to cook but love to bake even more. This year I want to try a new recipe at least once a week.
Enjoy :)
The kitchen isn't my favourite place to be either, but my family has to eat. I need some cookbook inspiration just like you!
ReplyDeleteOh, great, Mel - I've been wondering what 'Apples for Jam' is like. You're right -the photography is just divine. Yet another book to check out with Booko! J x
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen 'Apples for Jam' before ... it looks and sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteI don't like cooking savoury meals, but I love making anything sweet.
I adore apples for jam ... i am also loving your new blog name!
ReplyDeleteMe no like cooking, no inspiration or inclination, so feeding 4 growing children is a challenge with my husband away for 2 more years, he's our cook, he cooks with flavour, taste & interest. We hungry. That said i did by Poh's Cookbook today, it's GORGEOUS, so pretty & quirky, just like her. I'm getting inspired, love Posie
ReplyDeleteHmmm I need to keep myself out of the kitchen but these books have intrigued me :)
ReplyDeleteNot having eaten much food this week due to illness I am now OBSESSED with food! Thanks for your message Mel and by the way, love the new blog name! X
ReplyDeleteThose look like great books! I generally like to cook, so does my Mr. Lately though, I think I'm a little burnt out on it and uninspired. Perhaps a new cookbook is in order!
ReplyDeleteit hard for me to get inspired in the kitchen too, but apples for jam is my favorite cookbook ever, it gets me into the emotional side of cooking for a family.
