my creative space...

I've been wanting to paint this navy brick wall since we moved into our house almost 3 years ago, but I kept putting it off thinking that once I start I'll want to do the whole place.  Finally, it got the better of me.  A house full of kids & their friends was not the most ideal timing for such a project but nevertheless, job done!
before...
panic sets in about here...

after!
I'm really pleased with the result, it just makes the room so much brighter.  I was right, though, I do want to keep going!  Next, the hideous cherry red wall...

  1. Oh wow that looks so much better! So light and bright and beautiful! Our house was painted hideous colours too - sky blue, burnt orange and dark burgundy. It felt so good to cover it all. Good luck with the painting. I say keep going now while you have the urge!

  5. That looks fab and I love the colour that you chose. So much nicer than flat white. We had a previous owner of our house who was addicted to primarly colours too. Our bedroom was the same colour as your hallway. The kitchen was green and purple with aubergine wallpaper accents and our bathroom was a gorgeous shade of stippled peach with bottle green trim. Ugh! Good luck with the rest of your painting!

red wall does look good, what colour would you paint it. you would definitely need a few coats on that.

  17. Wow! What a difference a coat of paint makes. That looks sooooo much better (and your fireplace is gorgeous by the way).
I really like the red hallway, but I'd definitely paint the doors and trim back to white.

  18. Okay, so first of all I have to say that red is my favourite & my best so I am actually quite taken with your red wall, but WOW, how much better is that room now?!

It looks like an entirely different room, bright & inviting... bravo!

  21. Love the before and after shots. That colour completely lifts the room. I say, get stuck into that red wall. Imagine the photo frames you could put on it once you've given it a more neutral colour. Possiblities are endless.

  23. My hat off to you as that looks fantastic. I know that feeling when you are not quite sure but the day comes and you just have to do what you have to do. You must love walking into the room and looking at what you created. Well done...I like the red wall but again, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!

Thanks for your comment today...always lovely to hear from you :)

  28. What a great make-over! Sometimes you wonder what was going through a persons head when they desided to do things like.....paint a wall navy!

  30. Definitely agree with the other commenters Mel! It looks fabulous and I can just imagine how much lighter the space looks too.
Will be interesting to see how the red wall turns out too! I've heard that red can be the most difficult colour to cover, but let's hope not for your sake. :)
Loving your new header too. Looks gorgeous. x
