try and try again...

I've been trying to teach myself to crochet recently & so far I've managed a very simple neck warmer & a few roses, all of which I am really happy with, but why is it that I can't for the life of me get the simple granny square or circular motif to work?!  Everything I attempt turns into a flower....

...and so I continue on my very determined path to achieve the granny!

  3. A few years ago Emma taught me, I was completely addicted!!!! I've now forgotten it all and wouldn't know where to start. She is a great teacher though, you might need to set up a crochet/coffee date with her.

  4. Sounds like maybe you're not linking into the correct stitch when you get back around to the first stitches. Could you perhaps tie a piece of cotton or yarn onto the stitch that you need to use?

  5. Have you trid Pips videos over at Meet Me at Mikes? That's how I learned. Also, your yarn looks fine. I use 8 ply and a 4 or 4.5 hook. It took me about a week to get a good granny. It all seems to come down to the tension. Good luck.

PS. I love the flowers. I can only make grannys!

  11. I think you might be confusing the American and the English crochet terms. Is that possible. Try one of Lucy at Attic24's tutorials as she has great photos of every single step. Your flowers do look great though.
