what to do???...

I found this lovely Laura Ashley skirt at the op shop the other day.  It looks as though it has never been worn, and sorry to say I won't be wearing it either, I always feel a little frumpy in that length of anything, but I couldn't go past the grey wool fabric & I love the pretty embroidered patterns...
I've been hanging it here & there, draping it about, walking past admiring, feeling, examining...
just awaiting inspiration to transform...

  2. Yeah, I know what you mean- I remember seeing this when it was in the shop and just not getting on with the cut. However I could see it being used for a book cover, pencil case, accessory case, laptop cover, cushion cover... ooo background for a picture... slippers... hm... your cuddle owl cushions could look cute in this... gosh better stop, it's bedtime here!!

  4. somehow tranforming it into a big european pillowcase or recoving lampshade to keep the patterns, although its so pretty. i did see a blog from www.stitchbird.blogspot.com who show cased a lady who created really nice childrens woollen coats from vintage wool blankets and fabric.

  5. Love the skirt! Can't help with what to turn it into. I too buy things from the op shop to make into other things and they are still all hanging on their hangers in the hall! x

  9. Great skirt! Did you want to shorten it? It looks like there is a yoke there...unpick, cut the vertical embroidery and restitch. You will have to take in the sides a bit, but it should work. Am I stating the obvious here? Sorry if I have the wrong end of the stick and you wanted it longer. Doh. Re the object: thanx for the input, it is a toss up between toothpick holder and posy stand. i am leaning towards posy stand, but I will experiment with both and post. Have a fabulous day xx

  10. Is it long enough to fashion a neckline and armholes and make it into a swing top? Great fabric and definitely worth rescuing from the oppy!

  13. You could always trim it into a mini skirt, he he he. Then you have your fabric to make something with & a skirt, or perhaps so totally NOT!! Love a bit of black/ grey on grey though, love Posie

  17. Gorgeous fabric. A simple a-line skirt to wear with boots would be gorgeous. Then you could use the rest for craft projects like a crochet needle case or a project book cover. Have fun!

  20. I reckon abit of cutting - re-fashioning and adding and youv'e got yourself a lovely A - line dress - think - '60's' era....Love it. Can't wait to see what becomes of it - I too would not get away with the length of it if I left as it was.. Peta

  21. Really lovely skirt. Brenda is right, if you walk around it long enough it will tell you what to do. Otherwise,I also agree with Caroline and Nick-shorten it from the top or turn it into a top. Obviously no original opinions of my own tonight.
